how do i differentiate "to" and "too"
Main Post:
like a couple years ago i knew the difference clearly, but idk my brain is just not working anymore these days and i've forgotten.
for example, if someone asks me, "hey, could you help me with something?"
do i respond, "sure, I'd love to!" or "sure, I'd love too!" (on paper ofc)
Top Comment: When you see “too,” try putting the word “also” or the word “excessively” in it’s place. “That’s too big” is almost the same as “That’s excessively big.” “I want one too” is almost the same as “I want one also.” If those words don’t fit, then the correct version is probably “to.” This is just a rule of thumb. It could also mean the same thing as a less common version of “so.” (“You did not!” - “I did too” or “I did so”) https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/too Generally, substituting “also” or “excessively” will suffice. This is easier than trying to decipher every meaning of “to.” It has a lot: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/to
